Desert Care Calendar

What your yard needs, season by season

A general guide to Valley yard care through the year — every item below ties back to a real service we provide.

Spring (March–May)

Growth ramps up fast in the Valley — this is when the year's care plan gets set.

  • Fertilization kickoff

Start the season's fertilization schedule as part of regular maintenance.

  • Irrigation check-up

Test valves, timers & drip lines before summer heat arrives.

  • Plant before the heat

The best window for new trees, shrubs & perennials to root in before summer.

  • Spring trimming

Shape spring-blooming plants once flowering finishes.

See Maintenance services →

Summer (June–September)

Peak heat is when irrigation problems do the most damage, fastest.

  • Leak & flow monitoring

A single missed leak can stress or kill plants fast in triple-digit heat.

  • Evening lighting checks

Longer dark hours mean more use of your lighting system — good time to catch fixture issues.

  • Light trimming only

Heavy pruning is minimized during peak heat stress.

  • Cactus & succulent care

Desert planting earns its keep — minimal supplemental water needed.

See Irrigation services →

Fall (October–November)

Cooler weather makes this the Valley's best planting & lawn season.

  • Winter lawn installation

Overseed for a green lawn through the cooler months.

  • Best planting window

Trees & shrubs root in well before next summer's heat.

  • Irrigation timer adjustment

Watering schedules step down as temperatures cool.

  • Plan next year's design

Fall is a good time to start a new design or renovation for spring.

See Winter Lawn Installation →

Winter (December–February)

Mild days, cold nights — the season for dormant care & longer lighting hours.

  • Dormant pruning

Structural trimming while many plants are dormant.

  • Longer lighting hours

Earlier sunsets mean more evening use of your landscape lighting.

  • Winter lawn upkeep

Mowing & care for the overseeded lawn installed in fall.

  • Cold-weather irrigation

Timers adjusted so plants aren't over- or under-watered in cooler soil.
